Introducing the world’s best indoor hazardous substance cabinets

Overview

Storing dangerous goods indoors is more of a challenge today that it ever has been. That said, there have been a range of solutions available for a number of years.

In the early 20th Century, as industries expanded and the use of DG’s increased, the need for safer storage was apparent. Initial regulations in the USA and Europe focussed on storing and handling the substances.

Indoor storage cabinets evolved, and since the 1950’s, stricter safety regulations have made the use of these cabinets mandatory in many industries.

However most cabinets today are equivalents or derivatives of what originated in the USA and Europe all those years ago. And what worked (or works) on the other side of the world, doesn’t always work for us in New Zealand.

The DG’s themselves have different sizing, different classifications, and different storage requirements. But we’ve been stuck with designs – or cheap copies of designs – that originated half a world away.

A cabinet specifically designed by Kiwi business for Kiwi business, has been about as rare as Moa sightings.

In mulling this over, we decided that it was time that changed.

Kiwi from the ground up

Working with the New Zealand market for as long as we have, has given us a unique insight into what Kiwi businesses need in an indoor storage cabinet.

It needs to be compliant with our regulations – no if’s or but’s on that one. It needs to be versatile, and have the ability to be moved or reconfigured to suit businesses’ changing needs. And, it needs to be tough and reliable – without costing the earth. (In terms of dollars and impact to the environment!).

So, we set to work and with our very own team, building a range from the ground up. Without the limitations of offshore designs, or worse still, cheap copies. (Watch out for these!)

Design

We made sure the designs met the latest WorkSafe requirements. (The self-closing requirement, the exact sump height, the precise wall thickness – that sort of thing.)

Then we made the varying model sizes as uniform in dimensions as possible. This meant we maximised steel sheet efficiency, and minimised waste. That also helped keep the costs down. Then we came up with a game-changer: no welded components. Today, welding a cabinet together is dinosaur-thinking. One of our design innovators came up with one single sized bolt, that holds each and every cabinet together. No welding means more versatility without losing a grain of strength. And there’s less environmental impact. Genius!

We tested and re-tested the products. And tested them again. And again. The brand new, self-closing design didn’t just get cycle-tested a few times. It got tested hundreds of times. (And worked like a dream).

Easier on the environment

Once we had the range and designs decided, and the testing done, we set to work on the packaging. In what is pretty much a first for New Zealand, we decided we won’t be responsible for contributing to NZ being the world’s dumping ground for polystyrene.

We did away with anything that couldn’t be recycled while, making sure the cabinets were well protected.
